Privacy Policy

This policy explains what personal information this website collects, why, who can see it, how long it is kept, and how you can ask for a copy or ask for it to be deleted. It describes how the site actually works today. It is not legal advice.

Who is responsible for your information

This website is operated by Bright Tomegah, who is responsible for the personal information described in this policy. You can contact Bright by email at info@brighttomegah.com or brighttomegah@gmail.com, by mobile on +233 54 290 3362, or by telephone on +233 50 037 2126.

What this site does and does not do

  • There are no visitor accounts, newsletter sign-ups, analytics, advertising or tracking cookies.
  • Fonts and images are served from this website itself, so reading the site does not send your information to font, image or advertising services.
  • The only personal information this site deliberately collects is what you choose to send through the contact form or in a comment on an article, both described below.

The contact form

When you send a message through the contact form, the site stores what you enter: your name, email address, message, and, if you provide them, your phone number and country. It also stores what your enquiry is about, your preferred contact method, and your confirmation that you agree to this policy. It also automatically records the page you sent the form from and, if present, any campaign details in the link you followed to reach the site. Your IP address is not stored with your enquiry.

This information is used only to reply to your enquiry. It is never published on the site, never sold, and never used for marketing. Only the site’s administrators can see it, in the site’s private administration area. They may add a status (for example, “responded”), private notes and a spam check result while dealing with your enquiry.

The form cannot be sent unless you tick the box confirming that you agree to your information being used as described in this policy. You can ask at any time for your enquiry to be deleted.

Comments on articles

You can comment on articles without creating an account. When you leave a comment, the site stores the name, email address and comment you enter, and the date and time. It also automatically stores your IP address and your browser’s user-agent string (a short description of your browser and device that browsers send with every request). There is no field for a website address.

Every comment is held for moderation and is not shown on the site until an administrator has approved it. The IP address and browser details are kept to help the administrator recognise spam and abuse when reviewing comments. Once a comment is approved, your name, your comment and its date are shown publicly with the article. Your email address, IP address and browser details are never shown publicly. Only the site’s administrators can see them, and only they can see comments that are waiting for approval. An administrator may decline a comment, mark it as spam or delete it.

Comments are not sent to any outside spam-checking service, and no profile pictures are shown, so your email address is not sent to an avatar service such as Gravatar.

If you tick “Save my name and email in this browser for the next time I comment”, your name and email address are saved in cookies in your browser so the form is filled in for you next time. These cookies last for one year. If you leave the box unticked, these cookies are not set, and any you saved earlier are removed when you next comment.

The Ghana Property Buyer Assessment

Selecting a link to the Ghana Property Buyer Assessment opens assessment.locatehomesghana.com, a separate application that is not part of this website. Anything you enter there is handled by that application, not by this website, and is not covered by this policy. Following the link does not send your contact-form details to the assessment, and no tracking details are added to the link.

Email notifications and service providers

When an enquiry is sent, a copy of it (including your name, contact details and message) is emailed to info@brighttomegah.com so it can be answered. That email is sent through Titan’s email service and is stored in the info@brighttomegah.com mailbox, which is provided by Titan. A blind copy of the same email is sent to brighttomegah@gmail.com, a Gmail mailbox provided by Google. If you write to brighttomegah@gmail.com directly, your message is also handled by Google.

When a comment is left, an email asking for it to be reviewed is sent to brighttomegah@gmail.com. It includes the commenter’s name, email address, IP address and comment. It is sent through Titan’s email service and stored in that Gmail mailbox, provided by Google.

The website is hosted by Hostinger. These providers process your information on Bright Tomegah’s behalf to host the website and deliver email, and may process it outside Ghana.

Technical information

Like most websites, the hosting service may keep short-term technical logs (such as IP address, browser type and the pages requested) as part of normal operation, for security and to keep the site working. These logs are not used to identify or profile visitors.

How long your information is kept

The aim is to keep an enquiry for no longer than 24 months from the date it was sent. Deletion is not automatic at present: an administrator deletes enquiries manually. Deleting an enquiry from the website does not automatically delete the notification emails already sent to the two mailboxes above.

An approved comment, and the information stored with it, is kept for as long as the article it belongs to is published, unless it is removed through moderation or after a valid privacy request. Comments waiting for approval are reviewed or deleted within 30 days. Declined, spam and binned comments are permanently deleted within 30 days: comments in the bin are deleted automatically after 30 days, and an administrator deletes declined and spam comments. Deleting a comment does not delete the notification email already sent about it.

Your rights

You can ask for a copy of the information held about you, ask for it to be corrected, or ask for it to be deleted at any time, including before the 24 months are up. To do this, email info@brighttomegah.com. Your identity will be confirmed before any information is released or deleted.

Requests are handled using WordPress’s built-in tools for exporting and erasing personal data, which find your enquiries by the email address you gave. A copy of your information includes the details you supplied through the form, the page you sent it from and any campaign details recorded with it. It does not include the administrators’ internal status, private notes or spam check result, which are the site’s own working record. Erasure removes your name, email address, phone number, country, message, preferred contact method, consent confirmation, the page you sent the form from and any campaign details from each matching enquiry; only the general enquiry type and the administrators’ internal record remain.

Comments are found by the email address you used. A copy includes your name, email address, IP address, browser details, the date, the comment and a link to it. Erasure replaces your name with “Anonymous”, removes your email address and browser details, and replaces the last part of your IP address with zeros. The text of a comment stays on the site unless you also ask for the comment itself to be deleted.

If you are unhappy with how your information has been handled, please contact us first. You may also be able to complain to Ghana’s Data Protection Commission.

Changes to this policy

This policy will be updated before any new feature that handles personal information is introduced, such as a newsletter, analytics or advertising. The date below shows when it last changed.
